A Weekend in Mississippi

Maury riding Owen's horse with Papa C's help

Migi reading to Maury and Carter

Carter's first and last time using the bassinet feature of the pack-n-play. His head touched one end and his feet touched the other!

First meal in the car!

This is what Mommy has to deal with after weekends being spoiled by Grandparents!

We traveled to Brandon to visit Migi and Papa C, Aunt Cameron and Uncle Lee, and Aunt Alex for the weekend. Owen played two full days of golf while we hung out with Migi around the house and did a little shopping for pj's. Papa C bought Maury a swing for their deck so when it wasn't raining she got a little swing time! We left late on Sunday so Maury had her first Happy Meal in the car and we made it home a little past bed time so we skipped baths and they went straight to bed. They are both a little rotten today (as they always are after visiting either grandparents) but hopefully I'll get them straightened out in a day or two! We had lots of fun, thanks Migi and Papa C!

Zoo Trip

We went to the zoo with Brooke and Henry today, a trip I would have never made on my own. It was easy with an extra set of hands! Maury and Henry had a ball and Carter enjoyed a long nap in the stroller. He never knew he was at the zoo! I think the petting zoo was their favorite attraction. We rode the carousel and planned to ride the train but by the time we got to it the line was long and Maury and Henry were tired and hungry. The weather was perfect! We couldn't have picked a better day!

A Pleasant Stroll for Mommy

I never know what a morning stroll will bring. Will Carter scream from start to finish? Will Maury constantly poke him and steal his passy and blankie? Each stroll is a new adventure. I got lucky today! Both little angels fell fast asleep about midway through. I was able to hear myself think for about 20 minutes!

Summer Fun

We have been having lots of fun in the great outdoors lately. We spend lots of time on the patio at home, Maury in her big swing, Carter in his baby swing, and Maury in the sandbox . We got to spend a couple of days at Mimi and Gandy's house (their Country Club is a little nicer than ours in the back yard). Cousins Charlotte and John David were there too so Maury had a big time with them. Snapping beans on Mimi's back porch was a highlight!

If You're Happy and You Know it......

It's always a challenge getting both Maury and Carter to look at the camera (I don't even try to get two smiles). I try anything I can think of. During this photo session I settled on a round of "If You're Happy and You Know It Clap Your Hands." I guess Carter wasn't happy.

Not Much Going On.....

I haven't posted in a few days because the past few day have been somewhat uneventful so I'll just post a few random pictures I've taken. We have been to the mall and the grocery store and both trips were successful! It's getting a little easier to get out! We've been to Henry's to play a few times, been on a couple of strolls other than that nothing to report!

Happy Father's Day!

Owen had a big weekend celebrating turning 30 and Father's Day! Getting ready for church went a little smoother this week, probably because I took my shower, ironed and laid out clothes the night before. We were only 10 minutes late! Happy Father's Day to the greatest Daddy in the world!

Happy Birthday Owen!

Owen turned the big 3-0 on Friday! Maury had her first baking lesson making cupcakes for Daddy! She was really interested in the whole process, maybe she'll become a chef! She especially liked eating the sprinkles!

Carter's Latest Trick

Carter started rolling over (tummy to back) last week and I managed to capture it today.....well, sort of, I got the before and after. We are very proud of him. Even Maury claps for him and will roll over herself!

My Little Artist

Maury has developed an interest in art. She loves coloring in the bathtub with her bath crayons and on the kitchen floor in her giant coloring book (some of the art goes in the book some on the floor.....and on the fridge). Today she felt that she must sit directly in the book to complete her masterpiece!

The Library Take Two!

Maury made it back to the library last night to return her books thanks to her Daddy. They met Henry and his Daddy David for the show at the children's theatre and then checked out more books. Owen said the show didn't appeal to Maury or Henry so they didn't stay long. They had much rather play on the computers in the preschool area. So maybe we will be able to continue with the summer reading program after all!

Bed Head

I can't find a solution to this problem. When Maury wakes up this is what her hair looks like. So 3 times a day (morning and after each nap) we wet her hair and start over. I don't think she rubs her head against the sheet while sleeping, I have no clue why it gets so matted. She does have some curls in the back but goodness gracious!

Carter the Giant

Carter had his 2 month check-up today! We are truly blessed to have two healthy children, extra healthy in Carter's case. He weighed 14 lbs and 10 oz and was 24 3/4 in long! He is in the 97th percentile for both (so he weighs more and is taller than 97 out of 100 babies his age)! Not that we didn't know he was chubby but....... whew! I was thinking he'd probably even out by the next check-up or so but Dr. Hamm informed me that more than likely he'll always be a big boy. I'm posting a topless pic to show off his figure, and no I didn't put rubber bands around his arms and legs. He has become quite the character, he grins and coos all of the time now!

Pool Party!!!

Happy 29th to me! I'm going to start counting backward next year! We had fun with the Jackson girls in the pool. It was Maury's first big pool swim since her water babies class in January (I just know she remembers that)! She was all smiles! She'd kick her legs and say "Kick, Kick, Kick, Kick." We all thought the birthday cake was tasty, Maury prefered it by the handful while Mary B and Gray licked it so they wouldn't get their hands dirty (we forgot forks)! Carter stayed indoors in the AC!

Block Party!

We went to Decatur to spend the night and have a little fun because Sunday was my birthday and Owen had a tournament at work all weekend. We went to Mimi and Grandy's neighborhood block party where Maury enjoyed the jumpolene (and a brownie, thanks Grandy) and Carter enjoyed the scenery from his stroller!

Coulson Country Club

Looks like our summer is pretty much confined to our house and yard so we are making the best of it. Maury likes to spend her time in the pool while Carter prefers the poolside cabana!

Step 2 Wagon for 2

When I was choosing a wagon for Maury I read reviews on this one that said an infant carrier fits perfectly in one seat (although it's not recommended by the manufacturer). And what do ya know! It does! We've made lots of laps around the yard and down the street. They both really like a wagon ride!

Picture of Carter post Library!

First Library Trip (for both)

I now know why we rarely leave the house! It seemed like such a good idea. The library is free, air conditioned and fairly contained, this will be a great outing! Not exactly......Maury was overwhelmed. She wanted to run all over the library and I had Carter attached to me in the Baby Bjorn carrier so I couldn't hold her and it was difficult to keep up with her. I only lost her once, for maybe 30 seconds but it seemed like forever! We did sign up for the summer reading program and checked out a stack of books. We tried to go to the program in the children's theatre but Maury couldn't sit still (maybe because it was about fossils) and Carter started screaming. We did make it home with books to read. If anyone want to volunteer to return them for me in a few weeks let me know!

Hooray for Henry!

I don't know what we would have done the past two months without help from family and friends. Our good friends the Patterson's always go above and beyond to help out. They will come by and get Maury for a few hours a couple of days a week to give me a little break. Sweet little Henry is 3 months older than Maury. They get so excited when they know they are going to get to play together. Today was the first time in over 2 weeks that we've seen Henry because of trips and sickness so Maury was thrilled to get to go to Henry's house. Neither of them make it very easy to get a picture! The last one is bye-bye kisses!
